THE KANGAROO SANCTUARY, ALICE SPRINGS📍 My birthday gift from Rhys was to the Kangaroo Sanctuary. This was such a highlight of my life. I was so touched and inspired by the man (Chris) who started this Sanctuary. We learned a lot about kangaroos, and got to hold baby joeys and feed them bottles!! Such a special day for us🤍🤍 i was not crying the whole way home🥹🤣 **Tip for all Australians (if you didnt already know)!! if you see a dead kangaroo on the side of the road, pull over and check if there is a baby joey in the pouch!! Bring a pillow case in your car at all times, and you can bring the joeys into the next town. Day 4, section 7, Ellery Creek to Serpentine Gorge 17km today, a little overcast and a few spots of rain only. A different style of track again, always undulating but not the extremes of others. Some very unusual rock formations today, we walked over razor sharp barnacle like protrusions. Like desert oysters, sharp enough but nothing to eat. Some incredible geological mystery of how these unique rocks were formed and just erupt from the land. Very hard and jagged underfoot and ouchy sharp on the hands if you grab them as you descent. Once again very happy I had my chair to rest in for lunch as it was an art to find a spot without the barnacle rocks or spinifex to sit. More desert like terrain today, spinifex everywhere with its sharp blades that spike your legs as you brush past, more beautiful wild flowers and low scrub bush and gum. A mix of sandy, rocky, the barnacle rock and gravel pathways. Not a lot of shade cover so we were thankful for the clouds today blocking the sun. We started at a stunning pool, the largest we have seen, gorgeous reflections and birds and 17km later finished at another waterhole at Serpentine Gorge. 17km took about three times the time you would expect. My usual 1 km times are around 10mins, kms out here are 30-40mins. Plus I’m stopping all the tie in awe of my surroundings. #larapinta #larapintatrail #rockytrail #northernterritoryaustralia
