Der Hangar ist ein vorgefertigtes Gebäude, das von der Sidney-Williams Company entwickelt und 1934 in Darwin für Qantas Empire Airways Ltd pünktlich zum Centenary Air Race errichtet wurde.
Es wurde vom ersten Australien-England-Flugdienst von Qantas und Empire Airways und später vom ersten Adelaide-Darwin-Flugdienst von Qantas und Guinea Airways genutzt. Bis 1946 war die Landebahn Ross Smith nicht mehr in Betrieb und der Hangar wurde als mechanische Werkstatt und später als Geschäft genutzt.
