Get Amongst It 101

Enhance your calf muscles, turn your leg hairs golden, top up your sock tan, and improve your navigational skills with hiking highs in the Northern Territory. Enjoy short, self-guided strolls in the buzzing tropical capital city of Darwin, including WWII history and technicolour street art courtesy of national and international artists in the city centre, whose buildings, car parks and power boxes are ablaze with colour. Seek out nature in the ’burbs with peaceful walks in the George Brown Botanic Gardens, or picnic after all that walking at East Point Reserve.

Calling all adventure-seekers who wish to get amongst it: lace up your boots for bucket-list routes such as the Jatbula Trail in the Katherine region, Tabletop Track in Litchfield National Park and the Larapinta Trail in Central Australia. In Alice Springs, become a boffin on the overland telegraph (yes, really) at the Telegraph Station. Further out from Alice Fields, explore the Tjoritja/West MacDonnell Ranges, where you can wander around the Ochre Pits, Standley Chasm (Angkerle Atwatye) and Ormiston Gorge. Keep travelling west to hit cinematic Uluru and Kings Canyon – both offering breathtaking walks.

Life lessons in the NT

The Northern Territory is full of great experiences that will teach you so much about life. Learn how to have fun. Study what makes you tick. Enjoy failing and trying again. Test yourself to the limit. And pass life with flying colours!
