サーペンタイン・シャレー・ダムは、人里離れた西マクドネル山脈に建設された初期の観光事業の遺跡の一部です。
ここは希少な保護植物や野生動物の生息地であり、全長231キロメートルのララピンタ・トレイルのセクション8と9の登山口となっています。
カウンツ・ポイント（セクション8）からサーペンタイン・シャレー・ダムへ歩いていくと、近くのドロマイト丘陵地帯よりも多様な低木や樹木が生い茂る場所に出くわします。この多様性は、小川の河床、樹木、崖によって火災から守られていること、そして土壌と水資源が豊富であることに起因しています。
植物の多様性のおかげで、少なくとも1種類の花がほぼ一年中咲いており、蜜を食べる動物たちに食料と隠れ家を提供しています。
サーペンタイン・シャレーへのアクセスは四輪駆動車のみです。サーペンタイン・シャレー・ダムまでは車両でアクセスできません。車両はブッシュキャンプ、シャレー遺跡、そしてゲートまでしか行くことができません。ララピンタ・トレイル沿いでは、キャンプ料金と複数日ハイキング料金が適用されます。複数日トレイルの利用およびキャンプサイトの利用は、到着前にオンラインで予約する必要があります。

If you're a visitor to the NT, you need an NT Parks Visitor Pass to visit most national parks and reserves. The pass allows you to visit all parks and reserves managed by the NT Government within your valid dates.
