Gecko Canoeing and Trekking offer fully guided canoe and kayak tours of the Katherine River and multi-day hiking adventures throughout the Top End, including the Jatbula Trail in Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge) and the Twin Falls Trail in Kakadu National Park.
Using high quality equipment. The canoe/kayak tours operate in the non gorge section of the river, exploring the secluded reaches of this interesting river system, its many different habitats and the abundant wildlife. This is a nature lovers dream and a truly unique Top End experience.

The walk is restricted, via permits, and you are guaranteed completed exclusivity. The walk follows Koolpin Creek and then crosses a plateau to join up with Twin Falls Creek on top of the Arnhem Land Escarpment.. Expect to be walking over rock plateaus, through woodlands and to be camping in areas where very few people have camped before. The walk is untracked utilising a map and compass to navigate, giving you the opportunity to view amazing vistas from the top of the escarpment, swim in secluded pools and relax in cool, comfortable environments.. Starting and Finishing at Darwin, this itinerary also includes local Katherine Experiences on the first day such as: Cultural Experience (at Top Didg) and a Nitmiluk Gorge Cruise.. The Jatbula Trail is an ancient ‘Song Line’ used by the Jawoyn people. Overlooking the Seventeen Mile Valley and beyond, the trail features magnificent waterfalls tumbling from high sandstone escarpments, which feed into creeks surrounded by shady monsoon forests. The rock outcrops of the escarpment provide great opportunities to view stunning ancient rock art.. You will hike between 10 to 17 kilometres per day, completely dependant of your campsite destinations. On arriving at the camp you are free to relax, swim, read and enjoy the beauty of your surrounds. Each campsite has its own water source, from a small babbling spring fed creek to a 30 metre high waterfall. Each afternoon brings about a different pool or spa to sit back and relax in..
