Gapu XI

Celebrating the 11th print series in a 16-year collaboration with Basil Hall Editions, GAPU XI features works by senior and emerging artists working through Djilpin Arts in Wugularr (Beswick).

Gapu, meaning ‘water’, serves as a canvas for portraying the rich tapestry of life and culture along the waterways of Wugularr (Beswick) and the ancestral lands of the artists. This collection encapsulates the essence of these environments, featuring depictions of indigenous flora, fauna, intricately woven string bags, ceremonial dilly bags, and the mythical Mimi spirits that inhabit the land.

This exhibition not only marks another milestone partnership with Godinymayin, but also pays homage to the journey so far. In 2017, Djilpin Arts presented a print retrospective, showcasing all 113 prints from Gapu Series I through to VIII, attracting an overwhelming attendance during the Dry Season exhibitions. Notably, a selection of these archived prints is currently on display as part of the Kluge Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection at the University of Virginia.

Join in and immerse yourself in this exhibition.
