At Gemtree everything is done to make your gem fossicking experience fun, exciting and rewarding.
Tagalong tours depart at 8.30am daily (7:30am during summer) to the surrounding gemfields all year, but bookings are essential and numbers are limited. With the right equipment and local knowledge of your guide, you will discover the excitement of finding your own gemstones.
You can even have your gems cut and polished or arrange to have them set into jewellery as a memento of your outback experience. There is an exquisite selection of 9 carat gold and sterling silver jewellery in the gemroom.
Gemtree offer a range of tagalong tours from half day to full day and self drive four-wheel drive tours, where mud maps of the region are supplied for four-wheel drive enthusiasts with a security record required and checked on your return.

During the season, 1st March to 31st October, those with time restraints or if tours are fully booked, fossicking in relative comfort at Gemtree can be undertaken by purchasing a bucket full of garnet bearing gravel (you are almost certain to find some gems). . Your stones can be assessed by a guide at designated times and you may like to have some cut and polished or set into jewellery.. For children, it is great fun to buy a bucket and search for a treasure trove of minerals in Garnet Gully. You should find some interesting mineral specimens from the Harts Range region to add to your collection. Stones collected in Garnet Gully will not be sorted.. Buckets of garnet bearing gravel cost AUD30.00 and can be shared by up to four people satisfactorily. Empty buckets to be filled from Garnet Gully cost AUD5.00 per bucket .

Tours depart at 8.30am and operate between 1st March and 31st October. Bookings are essential and numbers are limited. A minimum of two bookings per tour is required for the tour to proceed.
You will need a packed lunch, plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, hat, sturdy shoes and old clothes, because you will get dirty.
Please note - indicative rate quoted is for one or two adults. Prices for school children and an extra adult are available.
After enjoying this unique outback experience, you might like to spend a magical night camping by a campfire under the stars. Please bring your own wood and use the designated fire pits.
Travel past the breathtaking Harts Ranges and learn about the mica miners who discovered many of the beautiful minerals found in the area last century. Travelling northwards along the Binns Track, detour past the Harts Range Racecourse and Aboriginal Community, Atitjere, before taking time to briefly explore the Box Hole Meteorite Crater.. The track takes you on through MacDonald Downs past the original Chalmers family homestead built in 1931 and on to the Mac and Rose Chalmers Conservation Reserve, where Cameron's parents are buried. There will be time to walk or climb here at Tower Rock before the final stage of the tour to the Mt Swan Aboriginal Art Gallery and cafe, where you can enjoy coffee and cake, before returning to Gemtree.. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy along the way on a shady creek bank.
