Get up close and personal with native wildlife of the mega kind
Today, native wildlife in the Red Centre is abundant, but did you know that a variety of impressively sized creatures roamed the desert more than eight million years ago – including the world’s largest bird, fearsome crocodiles and gigantic relatives of lions, wolves and wombats?
You can find out all about these unique prehistoric creatures at the new Megafauna Central display in Alice Springs. This exciting exhibit tells the story of the incredible megafauna of Central Australia of the Miocene era, whose remains were discovered at Alcoota Scientific Reserve, about 150km north east of Alice Springs.
