The Red Centre Different in every sense

NZLP badge

A trip to the heart of Australia is easier than you think...

Discover the Red Centre within a three-hour flight from the east and south coast cities of Australia – choose to easily connect to Alice Springs or fly to Ayers Rock Airport, located next to the dual-listed World Heritage site of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

Alice Springs is your base camp for adventure: dotted with wild waterholes for swimming, world-class biking and hiking trails, historic sites to explore and native wildlife experiences – all within easy access of the town that homes an impressive range of accommodation options.

Every visitor to Uluru (Ayers Rock) will attest that pictures just don’t do it justice. It’s a region full of ancient culture and majestic natural wonders including Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), which neighbours Uluru and Kings Canyon and can be reached within a few hours' drive.

Watarrka National Park is a three hours’ drive from Uluru – home to the mighty Kings Canyon – an impressive natural formation of towering 300-metre high sandstone walls matched with a palm-filled oasis and impressive views that stretch across the Red Centre.

We’ll give you a second while you pick your jaw off the floor! The changing colours of #Uluru are without a doubt one of the monolith’s biggest drawcards, particularly at sunset when it can light up and turn bright orange!💥 @melissafindley captured this beauty of a shot on a scenic helicopter flight with @professional_helicopters, one of the many must-do experiences in @visitcentralaus. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, Melissa! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT

We could stare at this star-tling night sky forever 💫 Would you believe this is #Uluru? The Mala walk to Kantju Gorge, a two kilometre return section of the base walk, showcases local Anangu rock art and these sheer vertical walls. This particular spot is well known for its profound peacefulness. Please note: @jaydidphoto received special permission to capture this image within the national park after dark. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @jaydidphoto. #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT

What a whooper of a view, or should we say Walpa of a view! The 2.6 kilometre Walpa Gorge walk follows the natural creek between two of #KataTjuta's largest ochre-coloured domes along a rocky, but relatively easy track. With the tallest dome said to be around 546 metres high (roughly 200 metres higher than #Uluru), it’s hard not to be amazed by its sheer size 🙌 Located 35 kilometres west of #Uluru, the ancient rock formations can also be viewed from a helicopter on a scenic flight or from one of the designated viewing platforms - it looks particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset when the rock change colour 🧡 Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @notthatwilson! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT

Take in #Uluru from every angle along the Base Walk 🙌  The walk is about 10 kilometres in length and takes you around the whole circumference of the rock. Each section looks and feels different 🧡 Some areas are surprisingly green and lush, providing plenty of wildlife and bush tucker spotting opportunities, while other sections feel open and vast, with little shade. You can do the entire walk, or just concentrate on one or more of its sections, depending on how much time you have, your level of fitness and the weather. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @jessicarathx. PS - If you’re in the U.S., and a member of #BachelorNation, don’t miss @BachelorABC tonight to see the Northern Territory on primetime TV! Tonight is the finale, airing at 8/7 Central on ABC! #TheBachelor #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT

While there might be a shortage of toilet paper in @Australia at the moment, there's no shortage of ways to experience #Uluru 😉 This Aussie icon is particularly beautiful at #sunrise and #sunset, when the light changes and the ochre-coloured rock formation appears to glow. There are a number of tour companies which take you to the best vantage points at the key moments, including @seitoutbackaustralia and @aatkings. Listen to their commentary about the region with a glass of sparkling wine in hand as the sun goes down 🥂 If you're travelling in your own car, be sure to check out one of the many designated viewing areas where you can enjoy this incredible view.
