Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @iamsavi! #SeeAustralia #TourismTopEnd View on Instagram The essential NT road-trip: #AliceSprings to the #DevilsMarbles (#KarluKarlu) 🙌 A drive through our country’s heart is one every Australian should make! The Devils Marbles are piles of huge, and some not so huge, red and orange-coloured granite boulders, which look as though they’ve been dropped in the middle of the outback. In 1870, while surveying for the Overland Telegraph line, surveyor John Ross named the boulders the “Devils Marbles”, stating “This is the Devil’s country; he’s even emptied his bag of marbles around the place!” They're known as Karlu Karlu to the traditional owners – the Warumungu, Kaytetye, Alyawarra and Warlpiri people, which translates to 'round boulders'. These formations come into their own at sunrise and sunset, when the soft light illuminates the changing colours of the granite, transforming them from stunning pinks to bright reds. Stay overnight at the bush campground or alternatively, you can find Devils Marbles Hotel 8 kilometres down the road. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @ettas_travels! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT View on Instagram Great swimming spots are around every corner in #Litchfield National Park and Florence Falls is no exception! 💦 This cascading twin waterfall provides the perfect plunge pool for a refreshing dip almost year round. From the lookout you can survey the surrounding location, while there are a number of walks that provide a different perspective of the area. Super easy to access, the park is only a 1.5 hour drive from #Darwin. Accommodation is available in the nearby small township of Batchelor along with a number of camping areas dotted throughout the park. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @rachelgrixti! #SeeAustralia #TourismTopEnd View on Instagram Nature enthusiasts everywhere, Yellow Water Billabong in #Kakadu National Park is calling your name! 💚 Take a cruise with @KakaduTourism and you'll instantly feel like you've stepped back in time. The sheer serenity is unlike anything else 🙌 The national park is a haven for wildlife with one third of @Australia’s bird species found in Kakadu. You'll also spot crocodiles in their natural habitat and buffalo on the floodplains, so keep your camera ready! Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia @jonny.melon. #SeeAustralia #TourismTopEnd #SeeKakadu #DoKakadu View on Instagram Is there anything sweeter than a two for one deal? @seeseaimages captured this stunning shot of both #Uluru and #KataTjuta (#TheOlgas) on a scenic flight with @ayersrockhelicopters 🚁 Even if you've walked around @Australia's most famous natural landmarks, it's hard to fully appreciate their enormity until you've seen them from the air! Make sure to keep your camera close - as the sun sets over the outback landscape, these gigantic ochre-coloured rock formations will change colour before your very eyes 😍 Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, Craig. #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT View on Instagram With views like this, it's not hard to see why #Darwin has definitely earned the right to say it has some of the most magical sunsets in @Australia! 🙌 @nath_lew captured this glorious snap at the @darwin_trailer_boat_club in Fannie Bay, just one of the many places to enjoy the tropics with a cool drink at sundown. Attention locals: where's your favourite spot to watch a Territory sunset? Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, Nathan! #SeeAustralia #TourismTopEnd View on Instagram Located only 90 kilometres west of #AliceSprings, Ellery Creek Big Hole sits within the West MacDonnell National Park/Tjoritja, an adventure-filled area right on the doorstep of Australia's unofficial outback capital. The park stretches for 161 kilometres and is an incredible example of an ancient landscape sculptured over time by the climatic elements - so, expect to be wowed by the scenery! This pretty outback swimming hole is known for its high red cliffs, large waterhole and sandy creek surrounded by gums. While it's possible to take in much of the region on a day-trip, there are plenty of campgrounds if you're keen to stay longer, along with motel-style accommodation at nearby @glenhelenlodge. Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @jade_elise_collins! #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT View on Instagram Turn back the clock as you paddle your way through Nitmiluk (#Katherine) Gorge. Destination: 40,000 years ago... 🙌 Whether you're looking for an easy day trip or an overnighter, you can't beat hitting the river for an up-close view of the region. All canoe adventures begin with a scenic journey by boat through the first gorge before canoeists take to the waters to explore the second gorge and beyond. With dramatic cliffs extending more than 70 metres high in some parts, it's hard not to be blown away by this magnificent maze of waterways 😍 Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @terrible.kids! #SeeAustralia #TourismTopEnd #NitmilukNT View on Instagram What if we told you that this epic spot is only 15 minutes' drive from #AliceSprings? Shaded by towering cliffs and ghost gums, Simpsons Gap is the first of many stops along the West MacDonnell Ranges. Water flows through a small gap in the ranges providing a sheltered haven for a range of native wildlife like the resident black footed rock wallabies. There's a handful of walking trails, all varying in length, for those looking to explore more, or alternatively you can simply just sit and enjoy the view.
