International air travel

Darwin International Airport is a major gateway to Australia for international flights, offering easy access to and from Europe, North America and of course, Asia. For long-haul travellers, international carriers operate flights from the UK and Germany and the US and Canada.

For shorter trips, Darwin’s proximity to Asia makes it easy to reach destinations in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor, Japan, China and Hong Kong. The short flights between Darwin and Bali, and Darwin and Singapore are increasingly popular, particularly with low-cost carriers. Darwin’s compact airport makes it easy to transfer to connecting domestic flights.

Note that all passengers arriving in Australia are required to comply with local immigration, customs and quarantine regulations.

Domestic air travel

The Northern Territory is easily accessible from destinations all over the country. Major domestic airlines operate flights from the capitals in the Eastern states, South Australia and Western Australia, with regional airlines covering smaller destinations.

The location of the Territory’s main airports mean you’re never far from where you need to go in the Top End and in Central Australia – you can even touch down just kilometres from Uluru – and there are regular flights connecting the three. Remote locations in the Northern Territory, including Gove and Maningrida, can be reached by flights operated by AirNorth.
