Darwin to Dili Yacht Rally 2014

Join us as we take part in the Darwin to Dili Yacht Rally from 12 - 19 July, then explore the islands and coastline of Timor-Leste, one of the worlds smallest and newest nations. A unique opportunity to assist Australia's nearest neighbour. The 2014 Darwin Dili Yacht Rally will start from Darwin on Saturday 12 July 2014 at 1000 hours and depending on weather conditions
will take around 3 days to arrive in Dili.

The event is limited to 25 yachts due to the physical limitations of the Dili Bay anchorage.

Participation in the Rally includes a complementary tour of Dili and surrounds on Thursday 17 July 2014, plus welcome function on arrival in Dili and formal rally dinner on Friday 18 July 2014.

There's also an opportunity to add-on a land tour or dive tour of Timor-Leste following the rally.

Tiwi Islands Adventure Sail 4 days

After a pleasant sail from Darwin to Pirlamgimpi at the very top of the Tiwi Islands and a good nights rest at a quiet anchorage, you'll step ashore to a small, modern Aboriginal community where you'll visit the Munupi Arts and Crafts Centre and meet the local Tiwi artists. Activities for the day may include trying bush tucker, instruction in Tiwi painting and weaving, or visit the local school. Purchases can be made from the art centre later in the day.

The next morning you sail down the picturesque Apsley Straits to the larger community of Nguiu where you'll join the Tiwi Tours tour, and then have the opportunity to wander through the Tiwi Arts and Craft Centre.

Setting sail early in the morning, you'll arrive at Bare Sand Island, a common nesting ground for the flatback turtle. There will be plenty of time for you to go ashore and explore this island, before lunch aboard, and a brisk afternoon's sail back to Darwin.

Bare Sand Island 60km south west of Darwin is an important turtle nesting site. Part of a chain of islands of strong significance to local Aboriginal people, turtles nest all year round but predominantly between May-October. In the peak of the season in June and July dozens of giant turtles come ashore. Their Larrakia guide will show you how to identify turtle tracks, how to find a turtle nest, and hopefully you'll get to witness a giant turtle as she makes her way up the beach, digs her nest and lays her eggs. Later in the season you may also see the eruption of baby turtle hatchlings from their homes beneath the warm sand, as they begin their scramble towards the water to commence their epic 3000km journey.
