Our best kept secrets

Jack from Cyaround Tours on a 007 Jetski
Jack relaxes at Buley Rock Hole

Secret adventures

For an adventurous start, kick off your day on a 007 Jetski in Darwin before hitting the road.

There’s plenty of adventure to be had in Litchfield and Kakadu in the wet season.

One of my must-do adventures during the wet season is a scenic flight over the waterfalls in Kakadu! There’s nothing like Kakadu in full flood.

At Buley in Litchfield, there’s heaps of smaller rock holes as you head upstream so it’s easy to find a place to chill all to yourself to cool off.

And for a real secret – I can’t give away everything – but I can get you into a pretty amazing spot to see our Magnetic Termite mounds in Litchfield.

See ya round!

– Jack, Owner and Guide, Cyaround Tours Australia

Meet Dennis

Experience Yellow Water Billabong

The floodplains of Yellow Water Billabong are teeming with life from September to April. As the rains come in hard with the monsoon storms, you can experience a completely different side of Kakadu and the billabong. Go further and explore more in our Best Kept Season.

Adventures in the Top End

There are so many adventures to be had in the Top End during the Wet Season: Experience our waterfalls in full rush! Take a heli fishing tour during Barra season, or go cruising down the floodplains in search of crocodiles in Kakadu.

Adventures in the Red Centre

The Red Centre is a whole new world during the summer months. Incredible waterholes to explore and some great hidden tracks if you’re 4-wheel driving. If you’re game, there’s mountain biking or a whole new view from a hot air balloon.

Drinks at Sunset - Ski Club Darwin
Hanuman Restaurant, Alice Springs

Foodie secrets

Do you know what I love about the waterfront? It’s perfect for everyone. There’s beautiful restaurants, coffee and ice cream. It’s elite. One of my hidden gems is Flavour Feast on Mitchell Street for great Sri Lankan, and you can’t beat a pizza at Lola’s or a sunset drink at the Ski Club.

– Minoli, Owner of Ella by Minoli

The food and culture in Alice Springs has really taken off in the past few years – we’ve got so much to offer and explore.

– Kyle, Alice Springs local and business owner

Meet Minoli

Chef and owner of Ella by Minoli, she’s a not-so-secret foodie.

With the foodie scene in Darwin kicking on year-round, it’s worth checking out some of Minoli’s recommendations on where to go and what to do! With a huge multicultural foodie scene at our fingertips, Darwin has a huge array of options from posh to hole-in-the-wall, and stunning views along the way.

Top End foodie secrets

Explore the Laksa capital of Australasia (where Laksa takes over in October), or dig into some truly inspiring cuisine. Explore local flavours and get local recommendations. With a huge market scene (Parap and Rapid Creek run year round) there’s so much for a foodie to love about the Top End.

Red Centre foodie secrets

Experience the best the Red Centre has to offer with recommendations from the ultimate festival food to high end eating in Uluru, or an unbeatable coffee in Alice Springs. Plus there’s the local brew to explore!

Kings Canyon Rim Walk
Swimming at Ormiston Gorge

Secret locations

One of my favourite spots is around Kings Canyon. An early walk around the rim is a great way to start the day. And the shaded walk along the valley that takes you to the gorgeous view platform at the end is an activity you can do any time of the day. It’s the perfect spot to stay a couple, or even a few nights, to just unwind.

– John, Owner and Guide, Alice Springs Expeditions

The mornings are perfect for exploring. Even if the days are very warm, the early mornings and late afternoons are perfect times to explore. We’re also very blessed in the Red Centre to have many swimming options, and summer is the best time to take advantage of these. Whether it’s the amazingly beautiful and ancient waterholes, or the resort pools, it’s the best time to chill around the water.

Meet Yordi

Wildlife whisperer and amateur herper (reptile enthusiast)

Yordi loves what he does, working at Alice Springs Desert Park, and as he says "if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life". This wildlife enthusiast thinks everyone should get out and explore the Red Centre and all its wildlife. Yordi’s always up for a yarn and you can find him at the Alice Springs Desert Park any time you want to chat.

Get outdoors in the Top End

Get out and explore the best of what the Top End has to offer in our Best Kept Season! From floodplains teeming with wildlife, to epic falls and year-round swimming holes.

Get outdoors in the Red Centre
