Things to do

The Northern Territory is unlike any place on earth; its not a place you visit just to take a look around, its a place to immerse yourself and be free.

In the Territory you have to smell the fresh air as the sunrises over the West MacDonnell Ranges, taste fresh for the first time eating a mud crab caught that day, hear stories over 65,000 years old, see breathtaking horizons from the top of a Kakadu escarpment or get in touch with history by seeing Aboriginal rock art.

The Territory gives you the freedom to explore and to get away. If you are heading to Darwin treat your tastebuds and indulge your sense of fun and adventure in the Territory's tropical capital city. Darwin is world famous for its fabulous food, colourful outdoor markets and diverse bag of adventure activities.

In Alice Springs you can explore a thriving, spirited outback centre, famous for the personality of its locals and contemporary and traditional art as the natural wonders, including the Larapinta Trail and the East and West MacDonnell Ranges that surround the town.

Or visit one of the great natural wonders of the world, Uluru/Ayers Rock. Not only a spectacular natural formation but a deeply spiritual place. You can feel a powerful presence the moment you first set eyes on it. Choose to walk with a traditional owner, join a camel tour, self-drive or dine under a canopy of stars, there's lots to see and do, and something to suit everyone.

We’re coming to you from Nitmiluk (#Katherine) Gorge on one of our favourite days of the year - #TerritoryDay! Territory Day marks the NT achieving self-government on 1 July, 1978. It’s also a chance to celebrate the Territory’s amazing backyard, larrikin locals and laidback lifestyle 🌴☀️ Talk about perfect timing – guess what landed on Netflix today? @topendweddingmovie! 💍 Starring our very own @misstap! If you’re thinking about a trip to the Top End, this 2019 movie will well and truly have you packing your bags. Open year round, the Katherine region is home to some of the most stunning gorge scenery in the NT. Consisting of 13 separate gorges, this maze of waterways stretches for 12 kilometres and extends more than 70 metres high. Our tip: Check out Pat's Lookout for spectacular views of the first gorge! Strewn across the outback, it appears the devil himself left a giant game of marbles unfinished 😜 There are lots of fascinating stories around the creation of the #DevilsMarbles/Karlu Karlu - you can read about them along the many walking trails in the surrounding area. Karlu Karlu, translates to 'round boulders' - the name is shared by the Kayete, Warumungu, Warlpiri and Alyawarra traditional owners of the area. If you’re driving from Alice Springs to Darwin, be sure to add this unique stop to your road trip itinerary 👌 Cheers for tagging #NTaustralia, @mitch.toft. #SeeAustralia #RedCentreNT #HolidayHereThisYear
