WWII Bombing of Darwin Tour by Land and Sea

WWII Bombing of Darwin tour by land and sea is a half day experience (0800 to 1230) that takes in significant war history sites. This complete package includes both land based sights around Darwin city, and sea sites on Darwin Harbour. Using local historians as your guides and real time commentary, you will hear the stories of the Darwin’s front line activity, starting with the WWII history and the Bombing of Darwin and tracing developments up to the modern day. The package includes CBD hotel pickups, the land based excursion and then the 1 hour Australia’s Frontline Bombing of Darwin cruise.

On this WWII Bombing of Darwin tour you will visit the sites that were hit by the Japanese air raids incl Charles Darwin National Park, the acclaimed Defence of Darwin Museum as well as the East Point Military precinct. The WWII Bombing of Darwin tour is complete with the one hour Australia’s Frontline cruise on Darwin Harbour.

There is also the option to cruise only for 1 hour at 11am each morning.

As the moon rises and the stars emerge, anticipation builds—you can expect to see a mother turtle arriving to nest, and if you’re very lucky, you may even witness hatchlings making their first journey to the sea.

Bombing of Darwin Cruise

On 19 February 1942 lives changed forever, none more so than for the crews of the 27 Allied ships that had been at anchor in Darwin Harbour. Hear the stories of that fateful day and see the remnants of the war along the Darwin shoreline with Darwin's only Bombing of Darwin Cruise.

Board your vessel at 11am at Stokes Hill Wharf, one of Darwin’s iconic locations that was centre stage during the Bombing of Darwin. This hour long cruise takes you on a journey along Darwin’s seascape as you hear the stories and take in Darwin’s WWll history sites. You’ll also be treated to real time commentary by local guides about Darwin Harbour and Darwin’s importance as Australia’s frontline port.

The cruise covers the historic Stokes Hill and Fort Hill wharf areas, the Pearling Luggers, the wreck sites of the SS Neptuna and USS Peary, the old flying boat base at Doctors Gully, HMAS Coonawarra and the Emery Point gun emplacement before arriving at Cullen Bay at noon. At the culmination of the cruise you can choose to disembark at Cullen Bay, or stay aboard for a fast boat journey back to Stokes Hill Wharf arriving back around 12.15pm.
