休河貫穿整個保護區，沿途有許多絕佳的露營、野餐、觀鳥和游泳場所。
探索環繞河流的岩石峽谷和紅色沙地，寬闊的沙岸上生長著蔭涼的河紅桉樹，還有保護區得名的那處大型水潭。勞倫斯峽谷和紅岸水潭附近允許露營。露營需付費，且必須提前在線預訂營地。
保護區擁有豐富的殖民探險和畜牧歷史。沿著保護區內的主要通道前行，您將重走約翰·麥克杜爾·斯圖爾特 (John McDouall Stuart) 於 1860 年穿越麥克唐奈爾山脈的路線，正是這條路線開啟了澳大利亞中部白人定居的大門。
探險之後不久，陸上電報線和牧場也相繼建成。漫步於老歐文泉莊園遺址，這裡是澳洲中部建造的第一座牧場莊園。
前往保護區的路線有兩種：一是經由拉拉平塔大道（Larapinta Drive），位於愛麗絲泉以西 50 公里處；二是經由史都華公路（Stuart Highway），位於愛麗絲泉以南 66 公里處。穿越保護區的道路需要高底盤四輪傳動車。

If you’re a visitor to the NT, you need an NT Parks Visitor Pass to visit most national parks and reserves. The pass allows you to visit all parks and reserves managed by the NT Government within your valid dates.
