Anaty (Desert Yam) | Jeannie Mills Pwerle

Jeannie paints the Anaty (desert yam or bush potato), with its seeds and flower

which she enjoys collecting in her homeland.

Jeannie's distinct style for Anaty was created in 2004 for Mbantua Gallery, its captivating energy has thrust her name throughout Galleries nationwide. In 2008, Jeannie's large Anaty painting was accepted in the 2008 NATSIAA, a prestigious Aboriginal art award in Australia.

Jeannie's cheerful and good spirited, with close family connections to some of Australia's top names in art. Her mother, well known Utopian artist Dolly Mills and uncle Greeny Purvis (dec), a successful entrant in the 21st NATSIAA. Great aunt, the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye, dubbed by art experts as one of the world's best modern and abstract artists.

Being one of Mbantua Gallery's nurtured artists, and working with Jeannie for so long

Although initially shy, Jeannie is open, emits pride in her work and teaching elements of the bush. Her smile and laughs truly are genuine and friendly.

When younger, Jeannie lived not far from Utopia Clinic in a camp which has

been named "Jeannie's camp" by the people there, clearly a showing of respect and leadership she has amongst others
