Opening night celebrations include the announcement of exhibition winners and feature live music, parade, performance and food, as thousands descend on the Araluen Cultural Precinct.

At Beanie Central, thousands of beanies shine like a galaxy visible to the naked eye. Try and buy, join a workshop, learn a creative skill and become part of the incredible Alice Springs Beanie Festival cross-cultural community.

The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is a community- based event that began in 1997 with a 'beanie party'. The festival was originally designed to sell beanies crocheted by Aboriginal women in remote communities. It is now a world renowned event, where Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal artists share their culture and exhibit together, with true Central Australian flair.

The festival aims to develop Aboriginal women's textiles, nurture womens' culture, exhibit handmade textile arts and promote the beanie as a regional art form.
