Same beach.

Same spirit. Just done differently.

Go Slow Mindil Beach Picnic Races returns to Darwin's iconic shoreline for a one-of-a-kind dry season experience inspired by Mindil Beach's historic 1918 beach races.

More than 100 years ago, Darwin locals gathered on the sand for horse races, novelty events, picnics and sunset celebrations. Now, that Territory tradition is being reimagined with a modern twist that celebrates community, fun and slowing down.

Forget everything you think you know about racing. This is not about speed, competition or high stakes. It is about atmosphere, personality and a great day out with friends.

Expect six quirky beach races featuring retired racehorses and ponies with personality, live entertainment, food trucks, and an unforgettable sunset party headlined by Australian dance music legends The Potbelleez. With no whips, no prize money and no pressure, Go Slow puts equine welfare and fun first.

Whether you come for the horses, the beach, the food, the music or simply an excuse to gather with mates, Go Slow is a race day that feels unmistakably Darwin.
