For 75 years, the Alice Springs School of the Air has been pioneering education across the Australian Outback.

Established in 1951, it revolutionised distance education through the use of HF radio, connecting some of Australia's most remote students to their teachers and classmates. As the world's first School of the Air, it remains unlike any other school on Earth — truly 'None of a Kind'.

Today lessons are delivered online, a transition the school began in the early 2000s as it continued its tradition of innovation and leadership in remote education.

Located just 3.5 kilometres from the centre of Alice Springs, the Visitor Centre brings to life this unique chapter of Australian history and an integral part of childhood in the Outback. Visitors have the opportunity to discover the story of "The World's Largest Classroom" learn about life on remote stations and communities, and share in the dreams, achievements, and journeys of generations of Outback students. The centre showcases the world-renowned innovations that have made this uniquely Australian school a global leader in distance education.

Join them for a tour. This experience includes a film presentation, a guided tour that provides an insight into the history, groundbreaking technologies and teaching methods that enable students to overcome the challenges of time, distance, and isolation.
