Visit Jones' Store - one of the oldest structures in historic Newcastle Waters.
As well as selling provisions, the store provided vital services including that of butcher, baker and saddler. Built in the mid 1930s, Jones' Store is an old building constructed of corrugated iron, bamboo and earth. It is one of the oldest surviving structures in the former stock route junction town.
During its operation, the Jones Store sold provisions to the drovers who moved cattle over the Murranji, Barkly and north-south stock routes, which intersected in Newcastle Waters. After restoration work was carried out, Jones Store became a museum with displays depicting both the life of the outback drover and life in the Newcastle Waters area.
