Welcome to the inaugural Milikapiti Festival!

Happening at Milikapiti Community, Melville Island, this is a community event with a focus on inter-generational learning through cultural activities with Tiwi Elders and the younger Tiwi generations.

Everyone is invited to experience the tail winds of the Dry Season, and the passing down of traditional Tiwi Island culture through workshops and performances from weaving, carving and painting to traditional dancing, singing, bush food demonstrations and cooking.

Starting on Saturday with a Traditional Welcome, and a host of cultural activities for young and old, then at sunset the renowned Ngarukuruwala Tiwi Songwomen, and the legendary Munupi Band, take to the stage to showcase the exciting results of their recent recording projects, followed by DJ's and other performances late into the night.

Sunday is a day of cooking and eating bushfoods, before the official closing of the festival in the early afternoon.
