Garabari is a participatory dance gathering created with Elders and community leaders to share a creation story of water, land and the making of a river.

The theatre becomes a shared dance floor where a pulsing techno beat blends with Wiradjuri song. Audiences are invited to join in through call and response and simple movement, gaining a direct sense of what a corroboree feels like today.

Costumes by Denni Francisco (Ngali), music by Byron Scullin and lighting by Katie Sfetkidis create an atmosphere that is both warm and energetic. First Nations peoples have long used dance and story to pass on knowledge and bring people together. Garabari continues this practice for our time, showing how ancient stories and language stay alive and relevant.

Developed through long term collaboration with Elders and community, the work includes their songs, designs and stories in a gathering that is both rooted in tradition and alive in the present. Garabari invites everyone onto the dance floor to experience culture as a living connection between people and Country.
