Umbrawarra Gorge Nature Park protects an isolated gorge with steep red cliffs and a creek that meanders through it.
A walking track winds alongside the creek to a large pool with sandy banks. The rest of the gorge can only be reached by wading, swimming and rock hopping.
The creek dries out and becomes stagnant later in the dry season, so visit in the early to mid dry season when you can be sure the creek is flowing.
The park is located about 115 kilometres from Katherine and 250 km from Darwin. The last 22 km is on unsealed road and includes creek crossings and steep dips. Check road conditions before you go.
The Wagiman Aboriginal people are the traditional owners of this area, and ancient Aboriginal art adorns the gorge walls.
