Willis's Walkabouts offers multi-day bushwalking expeditions through some of the wildest landscapes of northern Australia, including the Top End, Red Centre, Kimberley and Pilbara.

Established in 1986, they specialise in walking beyond the usual tourist routes.

Their scheduled trips take you into remote country where you camp away from established campgrounds and vehicles, walk mostly off-track and experience places that are difficult to reach any other way. Depending on the season and location, you may walk through spectacular gorges, beside waterfalls and creeks, swim in clear rock pools and waterholes, and camp in the bush surrounded by wilderness.

Trips range from three-day sections to a 26 day expedition. Many longer trips can be divided into sections, so you can choose a shorter experience or join a longer adventure. They operate trips in different regions and seasons, giving you the opportunity to experience northern Australia's landscapes at different times of year.

They also arrange private charter and personalised trips for groups of four or more.

Kakadu Expeditions

Go deeper into Kakadu. Stay longer. See places few visitors ever reach.

Spend two to four weeks walking through the remote wilderness of Kakadu National Park on a continuous bushwalking expedition. Rather than a series of day walks or short trips, each expedition is one extended journey from one remote camp to the next, exploring different parts of Kakadu at different times of year.

Along the way, discover cascading waterfalls, swim in clear natural pools, visit ancient Aboriginal rock art sites and camp in remote places where you may see no one apart from your walking companions for days.

Longer expeditions use helicopter food drops so you can continue the journey without carrying weeks of food from the start. At the end of each walking day, relax while your guide prepares a three-course evening meal.

These expeditions suit experienced walkers who enjoy being self-reliant and spending extended periods in remote country. You need to be comfortable carrying your food and gear and walking for several weeks. Advice is provided to help you prepare, but you bring your own equipment, breakfasts and lunches.

Kakadu Super Circle Wet Season Expedition

Venture deep into World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on a 3 to 4 week wet season bushwalking expedition through a landscape transformed by water.

This is the only tour that takes you to Jim Jim Falls and/or Twin Falls during the wet season. Other tours can fly over the falls, but we walk in to experience their awesome power close up.

This is a genuine wilderness journey. Apart from the helicopter pilot delivering food, you are unlikely to see anyone other than your walking companions. The three-week version has one helicopter food drop; the four-week version has two.

Walk beside rivers at their wet season best, discover waterfall after waterfall, visit ancient Aboriginal rock art sites and swim in clear waterholes. The adventure ends with a Yellow Waters cruise and a night in accommodation.

You need to be able to swim 100 metres unaided, as we will float our packs across a number of creeks. You must also be prepared to wait if flooding makes a creek unsafe to cross.

Every expedition is different, offering a rare opportunity to experience Kakadu's wet season from the ground, far from roads and vehicles.

Family Walks

See Kakadu through your children's eyes.

Children notice things adults often overlook — an unusual insect, a lizard disappearing into the rocks, a tiny flower or an interesting track in the sand. Our family bushwalks give children time to explore these discoveries while experiencing the spectacular landscapes, wildlife, waterfalls and swimming holes of Kakadu.

These are genuine multi-day bushwalks, not sightseeing tours by vehicle. Families walk and camp together in the wilderness, away from roads and campgrounds, accompanied by an experienced guide who knows the country well.

Depending on their experience and fitness, children from around 10–12 can often manage our standard seven-day treks. Younger children need a slower pace, shorter walking days and plenty of time for breaks, exploring and swimming. We have developed special family walks for younger children, with different trips offered at different times of year and in different parts of Kakadu.

We believe families should have the opportunity to share these experiences, so children receive discounts of up to 50%.

Come and discover Kakadu together — and rediscover the wonder of the bush through your children's eyes.
