Old Stone Hut
Initially constructed sometime between mid-1940 and mid-1945, the Stone Hut on Lot 6441 Town of Alice Springs is important because it is an example of a building design and technique no longer practiced in the NT.
The building is a single-roomed residence with fireplace and stove, bush timber roof beams, stone and lime mortar walls, and concrete floor. The use of local materials such as the flattened tins for part of the roof is an example of an innovative response to the shortage of building materials available during wartime. These characteristics combine to demonstrate a bushman's way of life.
