The Barkly Homestead is a remote roadhouse situated on the Barkly Highway, halfway between Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory and Camooweal in Queensland.
It is the first and only stop for travellers crossing the border into the Territory, providing welcome relief from an overall journey of over 460 kilometres between towns.
The Homestead provides a range of services to a broad customer base, including the local cattle stations, mining organisations, the trucking industry, aspects of aviation, both recreational and commercial, road repair crews, and most predominantly the many tourists seeking the marvels of the Australian outback.
The Barkly Homestead features 30 motel rooms and cabins all with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning and flat-screen televisions. In addition to the motel rooms and cabins, the camping grounds feature 80 powered van sites and unlimited camping sites, which are a popular choice for travellers on a budget.
The Barkly bar and grill provides meals ranging from fast food to high-quality steaks and fresh Barramundi. The kitchen operates all day from 6 am until 9 pm. The bar is a busy meeting place for travellers wishing to share their travelling stories over a cold beer.
