Darwin River Tavern is a rural pub, bistro and caravan park about 45 minutes south of Darwin and around 30 minutes from Litchfield National Park.
Berry Springs Nature Park and the Territory Wildlife Park are a short drive away, making it an easy base for exploring the Top End without towing a van to the waterfalls each day.
The campground has powered and unpowered sites with plenty of room for big rigs, caravans, motorhomes and tents, plus drive-through sites, clean amenities, hot showers, free guest laundry, drinking water and a dump point. Pets are welcome on the campsites and dogs are asked to stay on a lead. Air-conditioned donga style rooms suit solo travellers and couples, and late arrivals are welcome.
Everything is on site. A licensed tavern and bistro serve hearty meals and cold drinks, alongside a bottle shop, supermarket, post office agency and fuel available 24 hours. Guests can cool off in the tropical swimming pool while children explore the playground and the small animal farm with buffalo, emus and goats. Live music and community events run through the dry season.
Dogs are not permitted inside Litchfield National Park, so many travellers use Darwin River Tavern as a base and day trip from there.
