Please join Bryan Bulley and the Outstation Gallery team to celebrate Bryan's first exhibition in our new gallery space at the Darwin Waterfront precinct.

Bryan Bulley's recent work has focused primarily on the space between human existence and the natural world; that contested area between a conscious human striving and the more 'innocent' vulnerable reality of nature. His paintings explore the ambiguous motivations human activity has around and within nature; an adoring/destroying relationship but also one where the human animal first arose, where their instincts and desires were first formed, where the bizarre human dramedy was first started to be performed.

Bulley's colourful, playful, yet complex landscapes draw the viewer into this fraught space, they entice and compel; his constant use of fable and fairytale creatures encourage this sense of mirth and fun; sometimes a whimsical melancholy, an existential moment, a sexual desire, but there can also be a sense of menace and alienation.
