Top End Markets

 

Mindil Beach Sunset Market

The Mindil Beach Sunset Markets are the biggest markets in Darwin with over 300 stalls that set up every week from April through to October. The market is famous for its buzzing atmosphere and allows you to stroll onto the beach, so you can enjoy the colours of the tantalising sunsets that the Top End is well known for. There’s everything from delicious international cuisine through to local craftsman, unique Aboriginal art, tarot card readings, massages and more.

Getting there: Mindil Beach is a six-minute drive or 30-minute walk from Darwin’s centre, and is located along Maria Liveris Drive, just off Gilruth Ave.

When: The Mindil Beach Sunset Markets run from 4pm to 9pm on Thursday and Sunday evenings, from the last Thursday in April to the last Thursday in October.

Parap Village Markets

The Parap Village Markets is a Saturday morning must and a favourite with the locals. Stroll through the vibrant lanes of Territory-inspired stalls and pick up the perfect gift or souvenir. Sip a smoothie or fresh coffee and be spoiled for choice with crepes, salads and an abundance of Asian cuisine.

Getting there: Parap Village Markets are located at the Parap Shopping Village on Parap Road, five minutes from Darwin’s city centre. There are regular complimentary shuttles from hotels and landmarks that can pick you up and take you to the markets.

When: Every Saturday from 8am to 2pm.

Malak Market Place

Malak Market Place is like no other in Darwin and focuses on locally grown, fresh and mostly organic produce. This market has a great community atmosphere with deliciously healthy culinary options, local entertainment and handmade crafts. You can meet the passionate growers, jewellery makers and craftsman and pick up some unique and even bespoke pieces.

Getting there: The Malak Market Place takes place in Chambers Crescent Car Park in Malak with plenty of parking options nearby.

When: Every Saturday, 4pm to 9pm starting from the last Saturday in April through to the last Saturday in October.

Nightcliff Markets

The perfect Sunday morning surely includes a visit to the Nightcliff Markets, where the leisurely, friendly atmosphere will leave you feeling relaxed. The freshly ground coffee, fruit smoothies, roasted nuts, silky crepes and many Asian inspired stalls are reason alone to visit. There’s also a focus on handmade crafts, woodwork, plants, jewellery and clothing. Get a massage, card reading or just sit back and enjoy the live entertainment with seating and a playground close by for the little ones.

Getting there: Nightcliff Markets are held at the Nightcliff Shopping Centre on Dick Ward Drive in Nightcliff.

When: Every Sunday from 8am to 2pm.

Rapid Creek Markets

Rapid Creek Markets are the city’s oldest markets and are rich in Asian culture. There are over 100 stalls to explore with exotic, tropical fruits, vegetables, spices, plus many dried and preserved foods. There’s plenty of savoury and sweet foods to eat and fresh juices, smoothies and coffee to keep you satisfied with live music for your entertainment.

Getting there: The Rapid Creek Markets are located in the Rapid Creek Business Village on Trower Road.

When: Every Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 2pm.

Darwin City Boutique Markets

Enjoy a family-friendly Friday night market: the Darwin City Boutique Markets. There’s plenty to see, do and taste with shopping galore, craft and food stalls plus kids activities and entertainment for all.

Getting there: Conveniently located in the heart of Darwin city and with plenty of available parking, there’s no better way to spend your Friday night in the vibrant Top End.

When: Generally held on the first Friday of every month between April to December from 4pm to 9pm.

Fred’s Pass Rural Markets

Grab a coffee or smoothie and something to eat at the accessible and relaxed Fred’s Pass Rural Markets. Here you’ll find over 70 stalls selling everything from fresh, local and mostly organic, affordable produce including fruits, vegetables, plants and chickens and eggs. There’s also many handmade crafts, jewellery, fashion and beauty products. This market is another great way to experience the friendly Territory rural vibe and is great for families who can retreat under the comfort of the large covered shed.

Getting there: Fred’s Pass Rural Markets is located just 25 minutes from Darwin city. It’s just past the Coolalinga shops on the right. There's ample parking which adds to the chilled atmosphere of these markets.

When: Every Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

Adelaide River Markets

If you’re travelling along the Stuart Highway, the Adelaide River Markets are a great place to stop by, cool off and pick up some handmade goodies, including jams, woodwork, cakes and more. There’s also the local service station close by making it extra convenient to refuel on the way to your next adventure.

Getting there: The Adelaide River Markets are located just off the Stuart Highway in Adelaide River.

When: Every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday between the end of March and start of September, from 8am to 12pm.

Batchelor Markets

The Batchelor Markets are held under the magnificent Rain Trees in the town of Batchelor featuring local products and produce. This event makes for a great add-on while visiting Litchfield National Park.

Getting there: Batchelor is a 1 hour drive from Darwin, and the markets are held on the Batchelor Oval on Nurndina Street.

When: Every Sunday between April to December from 8am to 1pm.

Palmerston Markets

The Palmerston markets have been running for over 30 years and have 140 stalls showcasing a variety of food from across the world such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Italy, Greece, Phillippines, England and many more. There’s local, fruit and veg and hand-made jewellery. With kid rides and entertainment, this market is hugely family friendly.

Getting there: Palmerston is 15 minutes from Darwin and the markets are held in the Palmerston CBD in Goyder Square, which is close to the public bus interchange.

When: Every Friday from the last Friday in April to the last Friday in October between 5pm to 9pm.

Red Centre Markets

 

Todd Mall Markets

The Todd Mall Markets are a favourite with locals and tourists alike. They’re one of the longest running markets in Alice and are held in the centre of town. Here you’ll find Aboriginal art, clothing, jewellery, well-being products, local honey, books, food and so much more. Head down and pick up a treasure, grab a bite to eat or just meet the friendly locals and see for yourself why this market is so loved.

Getting there: Located in the iconic Todd Mall in Alice Springs CBD.

When: Every second weekend between February and December from 9am to 1pm.

Alice Springs Town Council Night Markets

The Alice Springs Town Council Night Markets bring together a beautiful array of handmade crafts, Aboriginal art, music and food stalls that reflects the towns inclusive nature. There’s a variety of culinary options on offer from Vietnamese, Malaysian and Mexican, to burgers, pizza and desserts plus lots more. Pick up some local arts and crafts including stalls selling paintings, jewellery and woodwork artifacts. Visiting these markets is a wonderful experience and opportunity to meet local crafts people and view the beautiful traditional art.

Getting there: Located in the iconic Todd Mall in Alice Springs CBD.
