Located in the spectacular far west MacDonnell Ranges, 230km from Alice Springs, Memory Mountain is home to The Forgiveness Cross, a 20m symbol of hope.
This is the Indigenous-led vision of the desert communities of Haasts Bluff, Papunya, Mt Liebig, Kintore and Hermannsburg.
Visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside from the summit of memory Mountain and at various rest stops along the way. The 960m trek to the summit takes approximately 45 – 60 minutes. This is a Grade 4 walk, so please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring plenty of water.
The climb exposes the vast landscapes and majestic beauty of the region. This is one for the bucket list and a must-do on your visit to the Red Centre.
There are plans for extensive, high quality tourist amenities and facilities at Memory Mountain. We expect to be fully open to the public by 2026, but currently visitors must book in advance.
