Nunggayinbala people once crafted yir, or dilly bags, from bark fibres, dyed with local plants, and woven into beautiful, functional items with spiritual significance.
Today, Numbulwar artists create yir from ‘ghost nets, using traditional techniques with modern materials like wool, copper wire, and nylon. Bright acrylic paints replace natural dyes, blending ancestral practices with contemporary life in South East Arnhem Land.
