Desert Song Festival

Alice Springs Darwin Katherine Ulu r u Kings Canyon

Desert Song festival in Alice Springs celebrates the magic of singing, showcasing a diversity of works performed by Aboriginal and community choirs.

The Desert Song Festival comes roaring back in 2018, with its most exciting and ambitious program yet!

“What a Wonderful World!– celebrating global heritage” is an audacious theme! With bold, artistic innovation the rich, musical traditions of Africa, India, the Americas and Central Australia will combine to showcase our global musical heritage. Singers, musicians and audiences will be united in this sixth annual celebration of cultural diversity and artistic brilliance in Central Australia.

Over 10 glorious days a myriad of concerts, workshops and masterclasses will present choirs, musicians, small vocal ensembles and solo performers, in a celebration of; the singer, the song, the instrument, the land and its people.

Ancient landscapes and iconic heritage venues in town, provide the staging. Through music and song, audiences can connect with the custodians of this land and will feel the ‘connection to country’ as two major events, in the Tjoritja/ West MacDonnell Ranges, bookend the festival.

Marking the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth, the festival will honour this champion of justice and his contribution to our world and humanity. His story is deeply connected with the festival and its local choirs, ‘Asante Sana’ and the ‘Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir’.
