On the western bank of the East Alligator River, this viewing area offers a safe and unforgettable way to spot estuarine (saltwater) crocodiles in their natural habitat.

Three elevated platforms and a picnic area are linked by a short rainforest walk, provide excellent vantage points over Cahills Crossing. Here the saltwater crocodile, the world's largest reptile – gather in impressive numbers to feed on mullet and barramundi as the incoming tide sweeps across the causeway into Arnhem Land.

This seasonal spectacle occurs late in the dry season, during wurrkeng and kurrung, when floodplains shrink and freshwater flow from the East Alligator River slows. The best time to witness this world-class wildlife experience is July to November, peaking from September until the wet season begins.

Before visiting, check tide times online or ask staff at the Bowali Visitor Centre.

An entry fee is required to enter Kakadu National Park. Save time on your holiday and purchase your Kakadu park pass online before you leave home.
