Former Batchelor Primary School

The two-classroom Primary School built by the Rum Jungle uranium mining company, Territory Enterprises Pty Ltd, is similar in design to the company's executive housing.

The school is elevated on concrete piers, is a timber framed building clad with asbestos cement sheeting and corrugated iron roof. The Former Batchelor Primary School (built 1953) is of social and historical importance to the Territory. The school is a tangible reminder and example of an early education facility built in response to the growth of the mining township of Batchelor and the need to provide for an expanding population during the 1950s.
