Hone your fossicking skills and discover the thrill of finding your own gemstones on a tagalong tour, and even have your treasures cut and polished.
Your host, Cameron Chalmers, will lead the four-wheel drive tagalong tour departing at 8am.
Travel past the breathtaking Harts Ranges and learn about the mica miners who discovered many of the beautiful minerals found in the area last century. Travelling northwards along the Binns Track, detour past the Harts Range Racecourse and Aboriginal Community, Atitjere, before taking time to briefly explore the Box Hole Meteorite Crater.
The track takes you on through MacDonald Downs past the original Chalmers family homestead built in 1931 and on to the Mac and Rose Chalmers Conservation Reserve, where Cameron's parents are buried. There will be time to walk or climb here at Tower Rock before the final stage of the tour to the Mt Swan Aboriginal Art Gallery and cafe, where you can enjoy coffee and cake, before returning to Gemtree.
Bring a packed lunch to enjoy along the way on a shady creek bank.
