Start at the Hermannsburg Historic Precinct, that sits on the mighty Finke River which is known as number 1 world's oldest river at 350 million or 400 million years old and is by 50 million years ahead of the rest of the 9 world oldest river, where you will be guided by an Indigenous tour guide and learn what it was like to live in 1876 and how the missionaries helped the Western Arrernte people form the community it is today.
You will be taken out to Rodna by an Aboriginal guide through alongside the Mighty Finke River until you see the beautiful mountain scenery and desert waterholes for a swim. You’ll see and learn about the Rodna Waterhole and Itopalkara, which is known as the dog’s back bone.
Explore the mighty Lirra Pinta (Finke River) and be mesmerised by the Nthipa, dancing ladies, rock formation. The tour is a full day that takes you through 4WD tracks that are off the beaten track to go deeper into the region where you will learn of the dreamtime stories and be able to get your feet wet and have a swim in the Finke River before returning to Alice Springs.
