Heavy Water - arguably the best surfing film of 2019 - follows the life of big wave surfer, Nathan Fletcher, through the evolution of his surfing and his relationship with big waves.
The film provides a unique insight into the man who famously won the Billabong XXL Big Wave Award at Teahupoo, explores Nathan’s relationship with Andy Irons and Bruce Irons, and culminates in a spectacular, never-before-performed stunt, as Fletcher once again attempts to raise the bar of what's possible.
Heavy Water is a voyage through the eyes of the surfing community that delves deep into the history and psychology of big wave surfing. It has been described as ‘Magnificently Cinematic’ by Kathryn Bigelow (Director The Hurt Locker). Julian Schnabel (Film Maker / Painter / Surfer) says this is ‘the best surfing film I’ve ever seen - a profound insight into heart, mind and spirit of one of the greatest surfers of all time’. 'Best Wavescape Film' by Durban International Film Festival. 'Best Surf Film' by Byron Bay International Film Festival.
