The Australian National Championships is a national Squash event in Australia which commenced in 2003.
The annual competitive sporting event has only been held in the eastern states previously which makes it a huge achievement for the Northern Territory to bring it to Darwin. The tournament attracts a broad spectator attendance to see Australia’s best players in action.
The opportunity to showcase the purpose built fully air-conditioned Darwin Squash Centre and use the event to grow the local community through exposure of the sport to participants, spectators and the broader community.
The squash event would include an array of activities within the region and contribute to the host area through inclusion of introductory participation programs, education and training courses, functions and the three sporting competitions- juniors, seniors and professional players.
The staging of the event will assist Australian players in their preparations to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.
