Darwin will have you hook, line and sinker

A weekend away with the girls has never looked so good! If adventure is your style, mixed with some wine & dining, then the Top End of the Northern Territory is where you want to be.

The Million Dollar Fish competition kicks off again in October 2018 for its fourth instalment, and with 5 chances to catch the Million Dollar Fish this year there is even more reason to get your besties together for the ultimate long weekend in Darwin where you can live it up and have the chance to leave a millionaire!

Day 1:

The day starts with a road trip to Crab Claw Island Resort, a slice of paradise just 135km southwest of Darwin. The resort is an outdoor lover’s paradise where you can go mud crabbing, bush walking, bird watching and best of all have the chance to catch the big one on a guided fishing charter in Bynoe Harbour. Bynoe has some of the best fishing in the Northern Territory and plays host to many species from barramundi to mangrove jack.

It’s all about the R&R in the afternoons, relaxing on the pristine beaches and catching up over a cool drink at the bar. You will drift off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean in your comfortable beach-front cabin.

Day 2:

The drive back to Darwin is a leisurely one today and will include swimming, delicious food and more fishing! And you can do all three at Berry Springs, which is approximately the half way point on the journey back to the city.

Berry Springs Nature Park is popular swimming spot with three main pools and a small waterfall, perfect to cool off. The water is so clear that you can spot native fish and other aquatic life underwater if you remembered to bring your goggles. Due to the wet season rains, sometimes the Park can be closed, so ensure you check access before you get on the road.

You will be spoilt for choice for mouth-watering dishes at The Berry Springs Tavern. The award winning eatery is renowned for their creative combinations and use of local ingredients, the perfect location to stop in for a cold beer, wine or tasty cocktail!

If you are still talking about the one that got away at Crab Claw Island Resort, you have another chance for a last minute catch at Barramundi Adventures Darwin, which is based right near the Berry Springs Tavern. The land based catch and release barramundi fishing farm caters to all skill levels, and with 3000+ barramundi swimming in the ponds, you will be hard pressed not to land a big one.

Check into your hotel at SKYCITY Darwin, and swim the afternoon away in their lagoon or infinity pools, sipping on cocktails and watching the storms roll in.

Day 3:

Learn all the secrets of fishing in Darwin Harbour today from your guide aboard a fishing charter. The most tagged fish in the history of the Million Dollar Fish competition have been caught within this very harbour, so it’s a good place to continue the search!

By this time you must be keen to turn things up a notch. Nothing screams adventure like a fast lap in a custom built V8 Airboat with Matt Wright! The 45 minute thrill ride departs from Stokes Hill Wharf and will whip you across Darwin Harbour and towards the city’s scenic mangroves. This is the one that will give your girlfriends holiday-envy!

Finish the day along the Darwin Waterfront where there are many restaurants to choose from with views across the wave and lagoon pools and Stokes Hill Wharf. It’s your last night in Darwin, so why not go out with a bang starting off with Sangria and Mexican tapas at Hot Tamale, followed by hanging out in the beer garden at the Precinct Tavern tasting some of the 46 craft beers on tap, and if you are really keen, kick up your heels at one of the many lively night spots on Mitchell St.
