Controlling the Narrative: In conversation with Richard Frankland

Parrtjima | Talks | Controlling the Narrative: In conversation with Richard Frankland

Hear from Richard Frankland as a part of the talks program at Parrtjima 2023.

One of Australia’s most prominent Indigenous figures, Richard J Frankland is a performer, filmmaker, activist, novelist, counsellor, musician, community leader, educator, academic, songwriter, poet and playwright. His rich life experience, which includes playing in his band the Charcoal Club, permeates his songs, stories, plays (Conversations with the Dead) and prose.

From investigating deaths of Aboriginal people in police custody to being the first Indigenous Director to win Best Short Film at the Australian Film Institute Awards (AFI) in 1996 for his film No Way to Forget, this proud Gunditjmara man opens up about his passion to tell stories with a twist of humour and through an Indigenous lens.

Entry to talks will be on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you arrive early.
