A spectacular moonset (and sunrise!) at Kata Tjuta in @visitcentralaus 🌕 It might not be as instantly recognisable as Uluru, but Kata Tjuta is just as impressive as its famous neighbour. The 36 domes cover more than 20 square kilometres and soar up to 546 metres above the surrounding plain. ‘Kata Tjuta’ is a Pitjantjatjara term that means ‘many heads’. For the local Anangu, Kata Tjuta is an extremely important site for men’s business. Set your alarm and head to the Dune Viewing Area for stunning early morning views over the outback landscape, including Kata Tjuta and Uluru. Nature-lovers will want to experience the walking trailing at Walpa Gorge, a narrow creek valley between two of Kata Tjuta’s largest domes. The Rim Walk, of course! This challenging but rewarding 6 kilometre hike skirts the edge of the canyon for much of the trail, providing Insta-worthy views of the cliffs and surrounding landscape. It’s not every day you see a waterfall flowing at @seeuluru! 🌧😍 Lucky visitors to the region have been treated to waterfall events a few times over the past three months. While many travellers to the massive monolith come to witness the rich reds and bright oranges at sunrise and sunset, only a few get to witness the incredible colours and waterfalls that occur after heavy rainfall. The burnt orange scenery of #Uluru sure puts the awe into awe-inspiring! This is the Mala walk to Kantju Gorge, a two kilometre (return) section of the Uluru base walk, which showcases the fascinating local Anangu culture, including ancient campsites and rock art. Our tip? ​The Mala walk is often busy with guided tours in the mid-morning and late afternoon. However, it is surprisingly quiet at sunset. You look bloomin' beautiful, #KingCanyon! 🌷 While Spring only just officially kicked off today, it's actually possible to see #wildflowers in @visitcentralaus from April-November. Also known as Pussytails due to their recognisable flower heads, the Mulla Mullas (pictured here) are a group of flowering plants commonly found growing on rocky slopes, stony plains or sand dunes.
