Something I value highly, as some of the best moments in my life have been sharing an unforgettable meal with unforgettable people. We were fortunate on this trip to experience some of the best fresh food the NT has to offer!
Darwin is a hotspot for delicious fresh seafood and a variety of cuisines. As it’s the closest port to the rest of the world, Darwin has evolved into a celebration of lots of different cuisine, attracting a different type of person and different types of food too. You’ll be amazed at the diverse food centric markets, like the Mindil Markets which are situated right on the beach offering some of the best dishes you’ll ever taste. Grab your beer and your tucker and then retire on the beach to watch a beautiful sunset.
Kellie and I loved that we didn’t have to break the budget to feed our family of five while we were away. Whether you cook something up yourself around the campfire or head out to a local restaurant, there are plenty of affordable options in the NT. We learnt a lot on our trip about how indigenous people survive in some of the most harshest conditions, through time and solitude and continue to inhabit such incredible environments.
So after a long day exploring and sightseeing in Darwin, it is great to get the family together for a meal and to watch a magical Top End sunset. They’re phenomenal! There’s plenty to choose from but my favourite thing to do is to cook up some local seafood at East Point on a free BBQ and serve it up to the family to enjoy. You really can’t go wrong when it comes to eating in Darwin. A dish I love to make is Coconut King Prawn Skewers see the recipe below.
It really is no secret Aussies love to travel, and that’s why the NT has always been a destination that I keep coming back to. Going to the NT is a once of a lifetime experience and it’s something you really must see for yourself. Nowhere else in this beautiful country of ours can you experience such a diverse range of foods, landscapes, wildlife and activities to experience with your family. Once you make the trip out here, you won’t regret it and I can assure you, you will learn so much about yourself as you experience this unchanged, remote, inspiring part of the world.
