The East and West MacDonnell Ranges stretch out for hundreds of kilometres on both sides of Alice Springs. They are an adventure playground with hiking trails, four-wheel drive tracks, swimming holes, and camping spots.
Many visitors comment on how the West & East "Macs" (MacDonnell Ranges) are more spectacular than Uluru. It’s the unexpected jagged mountain ridges coupled with the easily accessible swimming gorges (no crocs here) that are all within 1.5 hours range of Alice Springs providing multiple stops along the way. Do them as a day trip from Alice or stay at the various lodges or campgrounds along the way.
