A community event held annually in Alice Springs, this project was developed in mind for Alice Springs social and economic outcomes, and regional development.
The effects that substance misuse has on the community and the ripple effect, in many cases to self-harm and death. Yapa Styles Fashion Festival or (YSFF) has developed a positive and rewarding prevention program which aims to keep kids off the streets and educate on substance abuse.
We aim to assist all participants by encouraging to focus on inner strengths including social/ emotional wellbeing.
Giving Aboriginal youth in Alice Springs and outer regions an opportunity to develop life skills in areas of self-worth by focusing on building their dignity self-esteem, self-respect, and pride. Training in styling and public speaking to encourage self-confidence, YSFF has also arranged to have professional guest speakers from different backgrounds offering advice to participants facing these issues.
We encourage participants to get involved in anyway that they're comfortable, with opportunities in back of house, assisting in catwalk training, media recording (photography etc) and modelling. Working closely with local businesses YSFF is creating pathways into employment as well.
